Nobody is going to feel sorry for players making a few million dollars less than they maybe could. My point was just to bring to light for the benefit of baseball fans on here, a dynamic at work that may be under the radar a bit. It could result in a MLB work stoppage that could kind of dramatically impact the game.
It does seem curious that Tom Brady and Drew Brees, both 40 years old, should be playing in the Super Bowl, when juxtaposed to current MLB thinking about player age. Granted, baseball and football are different games, but the idea that at 26 you are on the downside of your career in MLB and can win a league championship in the NFL at 40 is a bit nuts. Perhaps QB is the one position in sports where age isn’t quite the issue it is for performance for other sports and other football positions? Maybe Kyler Murray should choose football.
On a slightly different note, this is a cool website if you are interested in payrolls, contracts, and free agent status in the major pro sports: http://spotrac.com
