Much better than last year when Stanford was in 16th place after Round 1. It was a long, tough slog to get in the top 8 from there.

Speaking of slog, tomorrow's weather may make it a long, tough day for everyone. Forecast is thunderstorms, continuing into the day on Sunday.

Also a reminder that the scores we see on the tracker are not official until after the round is concluded. Texas team score just adjusted down one stroke after final scorecard verification.

At this point we have a 4 stroke cushion over 7 and 8.  ASU and Purdue are part of that pack, but still have a lot of golf to play, so my guess is that they will drop below 8.   4 strokes on this course is not a lot, so we really need to avoid those big numbers on anyone hole.  Having to count a quadruple bogey hurts.  There is almost certain to be a say 1 stroke difference between 8 and 9.
