As Hulk observed, Wang is the sacrificial lamb at the top of the order. She is 3 down through 8.

If Wang is the sacrificial lamb, wouldn’t it have made more sense for Walker to cast her name after Duke had announced one of its better players? From the rankings, it looks as though she’s facing Duke’s fourth best player.

As the higher seeded team, Duke could choose to go first or defer and let Stanford cast the first name. It is not clear what choice Duke's coach Dan Brooks made. He may have deferred in which case Anne Walker threw out Ziyi Wang first.


The most interesting decision Coach Walker made today is to put Aline Krauter in the anchor position. That is a lot of confidence in a freshman who has been solid but not spectacular all season (but who just finished her best tournament of the year, 10th place in the medal competition).
