What a year! Six NCAA championships in a year!

The six championships during the various years in the 90's were very impressive,
but given the increased level of competition in many/most sports,
this, IMO, is the greatest school year in Stanford Athletics history.

We only got six championships once in the 90’s.

Sorry. I meant the years we got either 5 or 6. There were 3-4 times in the 90's, I believe,
with either 5 or 6 (don't have the exact statistics in front of me, but yes, you are correct, only one of those featured 6 titles).

I am not sure there is more competition now than at that time.  There is more money in NCAA athletics now.  Better or deeper competition is somewhat subjective.   However, no doubt that in 2018-2019 there are many more chances to get NCAA team titles.

Women's Ice Hockey, Women's Beach Volleyball, Women's Bowling and Women's Water Polo did not offer NCAA team titles in 1996-1997, and Women's Rowing had its first NCAA title opportunity back in 1997.

So that creates at least five new opportunities to claim titles, admittedly Ice Hockey is an unlikely title opportunity for Stanford.  Still, there are quite a number of new sports and one of this year's six (Women's Water Polo) is part of that mix.

Getting to six in 2019 was harder...for Stanford.  Back in 1996-97, MXC, WXC, WVB and WTEN were all major forces in their sports.   MTEN was a legit contender.   Only MVB was a big time underdog when they played superpower UCLA in Columbus.

A few more chances are still available to get to seven or more and then 2018-2019 would stand alone.   That would be nice.
