A decent guess is that she really is considering something
outside college golf coaching.
The game of golf has been struggling,
at least in this country,
searching for ways to draw more people to the game;
An indicator: Each of my three boys owns a good set of clubs,
and none of them play--ever.
And my middle son left his young career in the sport--
apprenticing on the development of Bandon Dunes and Old McDonald, among other courses--
because he became convinced American didn't need more golf courses;
he needed fewer of them,
The PGA and Tour came to me a dozen years ago for my suggestions,
one of which was adopted in the Play Nine initiative.
But, as I stressed, far more is needed.
Our now former assistant coach is smart
to look for a career outside the sport.
