Narrow holes, blind shots, with not much rough between the fairway and the "you can't find it or play it territory", often results in foursomes spending twenty minutes on a hole just looking for each other's balls. They seldom if ever hit a provisional and have only a vague idea where their ball came to rest because the location is not visible from the tee box.
Unfortunately, you do not see course personnel trying to speed up play by warning groups to pick up play, particularly on courses which are a part of resorts and not always an easy course. When people buy airline tickets, hotel rooms, meals and fork over $100 per round or more, they seem to think they have bought their round, no matter how long it takes. Unfortunately, they are not often disabused of that notion. The matter is further complicated by many people playing from the wrong tees and thus making the course even harder.
