While he is not "old", there have been too many examples of bad long term contracts given to pitchers who didn't last five years. These days, teams are probably hesitant to do so. Three years with a team option for four is a "team friendly" deal, but it is probably realistic. Hopefully, Bum will see it that way too, or alternatively, no one will give him five or more years at big dollars.
