My son participated in Track and Field, Cross Country, Archery, Basketball, a touch of Tennis and 6 years of LL Baseball, but he never quit the Gymnastics he began at 3 years of age. About 75 kids get to move up to collegiate Men's Gymnastics each year. Keeping him in the same sport all of those years worked out. It isn't a sport you can quit and come back to later. If you quit for even 6 months once you enter puberty you will never get your flexibility back.
Actually, we didn't think he would be good enough to do it in college until he hit 10th grade. I just wanted him to learn to finish what he started, so during the tough times when he wasn't sure if he wanted to continue I pushed him to stick with it.
