I suspect that's true, based upon what I've heard.
On the other end of the spectrum, the less-than-intelligent admissions staff at my alma mater rejected the daughter of a very well known billionaire and owner of a local sports franchise. Yay, integrity! Yay, small endowment (by Stanford standards).
