This was my biggest wonder during the game.
Watching the game in the stadium I had no idea about his thumb but it was obvious something was wrong. I thought that maybe he wasn't fully healed from his head hit. After the first series in the 3rd quarter ended in another punt, my group agreed that we would sit KJ. Mills might not have been better, but he wouldn't have been much worse.
But we didn't expect it to happen, since the only example we could think of Coach Shaw benching a starter for non-performance in the past 7 years was Hogan for Nunes.
