So why did we spike the ball with 6 seconds left? 

As I recall, the play clock was about to expire, and if we had let it the FG would have been 5 yards longer after the penalty.  I think they ran it down as long as they could without risking the penalty.

Nope. Just looked at the tape: the ball was hiked when both the game clock and play clock read 8 seconds left (there was a half-second difference between them). The ball was spiked at 7 seconds, and the clock stopped at 6. So I'm still left wondering about our clock management there.
