Regardless of who is in at QB, I'm pretty pessimistic about next week.
Agreed, KJ has earned the "Starter" spot vs Huskies for an ENTIRE season of play last year.
But, also agree that Mills has looked better this season, and had a QBR of 207 (FOUR TDs, with the catch) -- against ORST.
Shaw is in a good position: he has TWO solid QBs, and the team plays for each guy.
The first TD taken in by Wilson on the WR screen was not only well-executed, but well-DESIGNED, with misdirection to the Left, throw Right.
Shaw's bigger problems are elsewhere, like the Secondary. We flat out lack the experience of a Dallas Lloyd, or a John Lynch back there.
Totally agree with critique about not covering Hodgins well enough. He should have been double-teamed; he is nearly HALF their offense.
We may not have enough DTs to go 60 minutes; maybe mix it up with more blitzes using DEs -- we have more of those.
And, WE did get 4 or 5 sacks on ORST, including a couple at pivotal junctures.
Swann played a good game; I think ORST starting running AWAY from Swann's side. And our LBs failed to fill the right gaps.
McGill is improving, but every game the Safeties let guys get by them, or make cuts in front of them. Reid used to jump those.
Adebo is still a great corner, IMO; but we are asking him EVERY week to cover WRs who will be drafted in the NFL. That's his job.
He doesn't get a week off from NFL caliber talent. And, the opposing WRs all WANT TO BEAT ADEBO, and put it on their resume.
T.Vaughns for U$C, and then Hodgins last night made some unbelievable sideline catches in tight coverage.
Oregon did not get much on Adebo -- they burned our safeties and LBs with TE Breeland, and the slant by J.Redd for a TD.
On all three TD tosses from Herbert, Adebo had his guy covered. Williamson got burned, or the LB did not cover Breeland all the way.
Oregon DESIGNED complex route combos that forced coverage adjustments to exploit our inexperienced Safeties, slower LBs.
UCF targeted Adebo's aggressiveness; they wanted to send a message to the NY6 Bowl / CFP Committees.
And, they did. UCF came in hungrier and throttled us.
