Right at the moment Stanford cannot run Power. That requires too much from the OL, particularly the pulling guards, and we just don't have enough experience there. We also don't appear to have a very strong blocking FB, though to be sure we haven't been putting a FB on the field often enough to be sure.
Per another poster who responded when I asked about our lack of Power, Cardburry brought Duo running with him from the NFL, which is what we run now, and which is what we ran on the TD run by Scarlett. The goal in duo is to get two double team blocks, and then allow one of the linemen to release and block a linebacker upfield, which is exactly what Hornibrook did. Duo is sometimes called “power without the puller”, but as you’ve noted, we often run it without the fullback too.
