In all fairness and objectivity, Quarterback U for the NFL is something of a surprise: Purdue.
The Boilermakers have produced three Pro Football Hall of Famers (*), who each started and won at least one Super Bowl, as well as four (five?) others who started at least 60 NFL games. Collectively they are the career leaders in virtually all NFL passing categories, including starts and wins.
Consider this group:
1. Drew Brees: 19 seasons, 265 games started. 12 Pro Bowls, 1 Super Bowl started and won (voted MVP). Certain inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. 74,845 career passing yards and 522 passing touchdowns.
2. Len Dawson: 19 seasons, 159 games started, 7 Pro Bowls, 2 Super Bowls started, 1 Super Bowl won (voted MVP). Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. 28,711 career passing yards and 239 passing touchdowns.
3. Bob Griese: 14 seasons, 151 games started. 8 Pro Bowls, 3 Super Bowls started, 2 Super Bowls won. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. 25,092 career passing yards and 192 passing touchdowns.
4. Jim Everett: 12 seasons, 153 games started. 1 Pro Bowl. 34,837 passing yards and 203 passing touchdowns.
5. Kyle Orton: 10 seasons, 82 games started. 18.037 passing yards and 101 passing touchdowns.
6. Gary Danielson: 11 seasons: 60 games started. 13,764 passing yards and 81 passing touchdowns.
7. Mike Phipps: 12 seasons, 71 games started. 10,506 passing yards and 55 passing touchdowns.
Bonus?: Jeff George only started one season at Purdue before transferring to Illinois so he doesn't really count, but he started 124 NFL games, throwing for 27,602 yards and 154 touchdowns.
