- Ensure rules are transparent, focused and enforceable and facilitate fair and balanced competition.
- Make clear the distinction between collegiate and professional opportunities.
- Make clear that compensation for athletics performance or participation is impermissible.
- Reaffirm that student-athletes are students first and not employees of the university.
- Enhance principles of diversity, inclusion and gender equity.
- Protect the recruiting environment and prohibit inducements to select, remain at, or transfer to a specific institution.
lots of wiggle room in the above, for example
- note sure how the compensation would not at least be peripherally tied to athletics performance, generally the star player with name recognition is going to get more than a scout team player, after all their athletic performance is usually what gives them more name recognition.......
I think they mean for that statement to be that institutions cannot pay a player for their participation or performance. And apparently others will be paying for use of their name and likeness, not their performance. [The fact that their performance makes their name more valuable seems to be indirect enough not to matter.]
The item on that list which rather caught my eye was the last one. I see no possibility of allowing outsiders to pay for using a players name that would actually rule out an inducement to select, remain at, or transfer to some particular institution.
