We win 77-59. Credit Jump with 8 of 13 three point shots for the offense we needed to break down this difficult 2-3 zone. Without her it might have been a different story. But don't forget Haley Jones who went off for 19 points and seemed to come of age. And Nadia Fingall with 10 points and 13 rebounds looked like a different person tonight, despite taking a spill and visiting the locker room. She played 26 minutes which is by far the most this year. Lexie was off tonight, going 1/5 so we needed offense from elsewhere.
Our defense was suffocating in the first half, but let up a bit in the second, winding up with 25% shooting for the game.
The officiating was awful, with lots of phantom fouls on both sides. We had 23 and they had 18. We shot 16/24 of our free throws.
On the +/= Jones, Fingall, Jump, and Williams were all highly positive with Fingall at the top.
We had only 20 points in the paint--has to be a season low for us. That zone was effective at keeping us away from the basket.
We had 11 steals to their 7. They are not used to that. For the most part we dealt with their full court press fairly well.
It is wonderful to see a good quality, all around effort and win against a quality opponent. Gonzaga and Buffalo and CBU had me worried. Tonight we saw the coming of age of Jump and Jones and saw the team show resilience after a lackluster effort last night.
Now, on to Mississippi State, which is a whole other kettle of fish.
