Joe Burrow was their QB last year and was just fine. Completely different universe this year with Ensminger.
Oh, and re: USC "rearranging" their coaching staff, that's not what happened AT ALL. They hired a brand-new air raid OC who recruited a new freshman QB that fit his system. Daniels didn't fit the new offense as much as Slovis, hand-picked by the new OC, turned out to.
Ensminger was also OC last year (he was made offensive coordinator in Jan 2018), and Burrow was just fine then too, so you would have to explain why the "different universe" didn't happen last year, unless it takes a year for the system to percolate. I suppose we will see if the magic was Burrows or Ensminger next year.
On USC, my point was that the previous system worked fine with Sam Darnold as a QB, and seemed to deteriorate with Daniels as QB. The current system with Slovis as a freshman (33.2 ppg) works about as well as the previous offensive system worked with Darnold as a [redshirt] freshman (34.4 ppg). There are lots of other variables, to be sure, but the point I'm trying to make is that the weak link maybe wasn't the offensive system but having an effective QB who can run said system. Darnold could run their pro offense effectively; Daniels didn't seem to run either offense effectively. Slovis seems to be able to run the air raid effectively.

Mea culpa. LSU hired a new passing game coordinator named Joe Brady who completely revitalized their offense. My point still stands that it wasn't Burrow in particular, though perhaps he fit this new offense better than their previous one. https://www.espn.com/college-football/st...-joe-brady
