Nadia took a real physical beating in Victoria. She repeatedly got undercut, shoved, knocked down, and stepped on. The treatment seemed intentional, part of a strategy to weaken our effort inside. She was on the ground several times and got up. She had to go back into the dressing room to get checked out, taped, and to reattach her brace. I was afraid that she would not be able to go on.
She led the team with her grit and determination and deserved the MVP. I guess one had to be there to see the abuse she took and how she kept coming back for more. I think that the people that choose her for the highest tournament honor saw what she did to lead her team. Much of what she gave the team could not be found in her stat line—that’s not where you would find her true value, it was in her team leadership and how the team responded. I'll repeat what I said elsewhere in this thread—when Nadia was award the Tournament MVP, the team was elated. They screamed, they formed a huddle around her, and they cried real tears of joy.
