Lots of different sociological, psychological, economic and demographic forces at play for women vs men participation rates in sports in HS and college. Thankfully they all work together to enable Stanford to sustain elite status in several women's sports. Some of those same forces also help Stanford sustain excellence in some men's sports, but certainly not all.
Football is one where many of the forces work against Stanford. And the trends are not favorable going forward BTW. The recent decline in HS football participation is not uniform. In most cases the greatest declines are in areas that should impact Stanford more than the average P5 program.
FWIW - I have been to those (Insert Sponsor Name) (Insert Town Seeking Winter Tourism) Bowls. A women's volleyball Final Four is a lot better than those bowls. Anyone within a 5 hour drive of Pittsburgh should seriously consider going and supporting the team, our school, and the sport.
FWIW2 - I fully expect loads of Wisconsin and Minnesota fans to find their way to the arena.
