Cormac Ryan was last year's freshman guard who was clearly going to be one of the stars going forward [and, unquestionably, a 4-year starter, if he didn't leave early].  Then, unexpectedly [at least to me], he announced he was entering the transfer portal and, ultimately, signed on with Notre.Dame.  Obviously [meant sarcastically] it was due to the fact that he was bailing on Haase, the program, etc., because it was in a shambles and had no prospect of success in the near term [i.e., while Ryan was there].  

Fast forward to this year and, what should occur, two players -- Terry and Jones - arrive and are freshmen starters.  Lo and behold, the team looks a whole lot better, ...but Ryan's prospects for being a 4-year star [for Stanford, at least] look a whole lot more questionable.  Maybe Ryan [or his camp] had an idea this might happen.

The point being:  Maybe his [or any transfer's] reason for leaving stems from the fact that the team's prospects may actually be improving, even if his personal situation might not be.

As for the absolute certainty in your assessment of Shaw's activities, I was wondering whether you are rooming at his house, stalking him, or hacking into some video devices in his office?

As someone who pays $9.99 a month to know this stuff, Haase bringing in a true PG did in fact have an effect on the Ryan camp.

And in an interview Shaw stated there would be no changes to the staff. What about you? Any sleepovers? Can you convince me that he IS doing something?

The difference between 2013 and 2018 was that 2013 followed a big and deep class.  The 2018 class followed a small (but high quality class).  You can't have small back-to-back classes and not expect to have problems down the line.

In fact, the 2013 class had very substantial classes both in front (2012) and in back (2014) of them.  They were 1st and 2nd in the Pac-12, with #7 and #13 overall national rankings.

Yes on all of this. The class following '17 should've looked a lot more like '19 in terms of size and positional distribution, in fact. But we got '18. I do think there was some acclimation to the new signing period that affected '18, but still, yeesh.
