When Bowlsby was athletics director at Stanford, I once heard him sum it up succinctly: he said, Stanford will always excel at the country club sports. The other sports are tougher.

The irony, of course, is that perhaps the quintessential country club sport - squash - is one of the few for which we've never won a national championship.

Squash at country clubs? Maybe work out gyms, but not many at country clubs that I've scene. Golf and tennis certainly. Swimming perhaps once, but certainly not anymore.
