My guess is that a number of guys would like to comeback and play one more years with their friends, but they are also at the point where they know they won't play on Sunday so they start thinking about the next step. Whether they like to admit it or not, they all know that for many there is a price to be paid for the years of playing football when they get older.A big factor to consider is that their friends are mostly gone too, one way or another. Many of the guys that they went through school and football with are gone, because they graduated. Even the ones that are still at Stanford are doing "other things". The fifth year guys are the "old men" of the team, and that isn't necessarily a fun experience. Some guys like it, some guys don't. For many, it just isn't "the same", and that makes it much less attractive. If there is some personal football goal that one really wants to reach, then it may be worth all the effort. Otherwise, it may just be a lot of pain for no real gain.
