She shoots the ball so flat that it often hits the back rim and rattles, sometimes popping out of the basket. She can be deadly accurate, but couldn't she be just as accurate and put a little arc under the ball? As good as she is, a lot of her misses go part way down and then back up and out. If every Haley shot that went "in and out" had actually gone "in," I imagine she would be shooting 74% instead of her already outstanding 54%.
The overly flat shot bugs me too. It seems to work okay for her on midrange jumpers (on which she really jumps), but it's not so good for 3-pointers. I remember someone asked at the postgame (or was it the chalk talk?) about whether the staff could work with a player to change her shot. I wonder if the questioner had Haley in mind.
A nice thing about a flat shot is that it has very little vertical momentum when it reaches the basket, so it isn't likely to bounce high off the rim. It may roll around a bit and fall in. But if you don't get it over the front rim, or if it hits too high and hard on the back rim and comes flying back out -- ugh.
