Tara's presser on the UC Davis game is available at GoStanford. Jones was the chosen player to appear. Praised Nadia, Lacie, and Anna Wilson, mainly on defense. Key quote: "Our defense was the difference and we have to stoke up our offense."
She noted that Davis probably watched what Texas did to get O-boards and tried to replicate it.
In the second half, we switched from 2 bigs, with Haley playing either the 1 or the 3, to 1 big, with Haley playing the 4. This was a defensive move to cut down on the three point shooting of Davis. It worked.
She noted that Davis even knows our calls, so every time we ran a play they knew what it was going to be. We of course should have known their calls too, but they managed to use their offense to generate 20 open three point shots, 10 of which went down. We need to work on running our offense better.
She responded to a question about Williams' offensive slump. She noted how nice it was that the team no longer had to depend so heavily on her--but she expected that Ki would "get her mojo back."
She notes that if Carrington and Dodson were healthy that the freshmen would not be getting so much time--but that it was a great advantage for the freshmen to get this experience.
And she noted that an 11-1 preseason was a great accomplishment. She did not seem downbeat at all about Texas and our close wins, but did call them learning experiences.
