For a bit of heresy, I have yet to find a great pizza in NYC or NY state for that matter. And I can't abide Chicago-style pizza, or it's third rate cousin, Detroit pizza. I do find it the height of irony that both Little Caesar and Domino's -- the most inedible pizza in the land -- got their start in Detroit (LC is HQ'd in Detroit, Domino's is in Ann Arbor).
I would take Round Table Pizza in general and Applewood Pizza in particular over any pizza I've had in any city. Sure do miss Applewood.
Had great pizza in Miami once. I think the owner was a transplanted New Yorker.
