Looks like Shin lost to Sanford handily in the quarters (6-2, 6-2), and Gordon in turn crushed Sanford (6-0, 6-1). The final tomorrow is Gordon vs. Oklahoma State’s Thamchaiwat, ranked #29.
Wished Shin would have put in more of a showing against a player who is UNC’s #5 singles player. Of course, that’s more a comment on how absurd UNC’s lineup is (Sanford is a top 50 player, after all), but still. I still can’t shake the sense that this time has one clear #1, a #3, and a whole host of #5s. Doubles is going to be absolutely crucial this year against the top teams, because we don’t have the same reliable points at #2 and #3 that we did the last couple of years.
