The panic over players entering the portal may have been premature. It's still a big negative if Williams and/or Swann do go through with their transfers (and to a lesser extent Hamilton and/or Hattis, especially if both), but it is clear from the interview with Bo Peek that the large number of portal entries was being driven by Shaw's openness to fifth years exploring their opportunities. He could have played hardball, and maybe we would have had fewer players entering the portal, but it probably would have meant that those who entered would have definitely been gone.
When all is said and done, we had two out of the three juniors who could have gone to the NFL come back, and of the 11 significant contributors you identified, currently only five are in the portal, and we will see how many go through with a transfers.
Also, from the interview with Bo Peek, I gathered that some players not in the portal have been told that the availability of their roster spots is contingent upon availability, as it should be.
