I am very excited and optimistic regarding our chances this year to take another large step forward,
particularly with such an experienced lineup. I wonder how our non-conference schedule
will affect a possible regional host candidacy (which is the next logical step after being a No. 2
regional seed last year).
However, if you read the softball message boards, I think people are underestimating our
pitching (probably due to a combination of our recent history in the circle prior to Coach Allister's arrival,
as well as with Carolyn graduating). If I was setting priors, I presume I would expect Maddy to be
the ace, followed by one of our freshmen as the #2, but my priors aren't that strong, as I think
there are compelling arguments really for any of the seven pitchers. I am particularly looking forward
to seeing what Alana and Gabi achieve in the circle this year.
Bob, your analysis of the lineup is spot-on. One thing I would note is that while Taylor G's overall average
for the season was lower, her hitting really before and after that grand-slam against Santa Clara was night
and day.
I could see one of a couple possible scenarios in the outfield, with 4 outfielders capable of starting:
Taylor G or Alyssa shift to DP, with Schultz shifting to 1B to replace Burks. Alternatively,
and perhaps less likely given the great defense that Teagan played in RF last year, I could
see her shifting to 1B to take Whitney's spot.
Emily K's injury is a big loss, as her defense was so steady last year. I think Sydney S is a strong candidate
to start at 2B, as she was a top recruit in last year's class.
Highest ranked recruit since Carley Hoover? Stanford had the #1 recruiting class in the country
in 2013.

Top 10 and a pitcher. I ran into someone recently and we were talking softball and he saw her pitch in the SoCal nationals. He thought Regan was fantastic.
