I just read somewhere the ESPN is going to be televising BYU home games for at least next few years, so maybe that had something to do with the decision. Definitely better than being relegated to the Pac-12 Network for a game versus William & Mary, but I'd still prefer a power 5 opponent. But I appreciate your point about not having to play in 100-plus degrees and/or 90% humidity in a 2+ or 3+ time zone in early September.
If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
