- Enormous win, so important to get a marquee win, not sure if we can pull it off at Oregon (but maybe we can if Spencer Jones has a better day shooting). Something about Oregon annoys the heck out of me, maybe it's that they keep reloading with Juco player of the year types and transfers (and especially when they reload with ones with a sexual assault history and the coach keeps playing them and acts like he doesn't know about what is going on)
- Whatever you want to say about Coach Haase, I am proud that he runs a clean program. Ziaire Williams is reportedly down to 7 programs, and USC and Arizona are the 2 other Pac-12 options that are heavily involved, and also heavily involved in the wiretap scandal as well. Seems a bit wrong that we are still having to recruit against these shady coaches, but alas, such is life in college basketball these days.
- We are a young team, but we have only been blown out of 1 game (to Kansas, a top 3 team who actually has some dominant bigs). We have been down to the wire in every other loss that we have had, with no other loss by more than 5 (and each of those with a chance to win in the last minute). Our perimeter defense is legit and should keep us in most games.
- We are still learning how to close out games. We made some of the same mistakes that cost us games again yesterday (Da Silva missed the front end of the 1 and 1 again, similar to what happened against Cal in the final minute, and also had a bad turnover in front of our bench), but luckily Oregon didn't capitalize and make some of the same plays that cost us other games like the USC game (Duarte missed a WIDE-OPEN 3 that could have cut it to 1 in crunch time, whereas the USC players happened to can their 3's when needed).
- Da Silva otherwise was awesome, he really used his agility in the post to take it to their bigs (and at times he muscled right through their defenders), but the smartest thing he was doing was the use of his pump fakes. Jumpers like to jump, and he was really clever in getting them off their feet and neutralizing their abilities or drawing fouls.
- Terry does not seem to get the benefit of the whistle from the refs, not sure why. Is it his stature? Is it because he is a freshman? He had an out of control Oregon player literally land on him and body check him to the floor after a breakaway layup, albeit somewhat after the play (but still not legal) and had to leave to go back to the locker room to be checked. No call. He gets tripped when trying to receive an inbounds pass against USC. No call. Against OSU, a player "runs back in excitement" and trucks him to the floor, but it's after the play. No call. I don't blame him for the frustration technical for lightly throwing the ball into Tinkle's belly when he is hacked at while calling a timeout, I'd be frustrated too.
- I was pleasantly surprised/shocked when they actually gave the flagrant foul for the play when Bryce Wills got chopped down by Juiston landing on him. We have not been the beneficiaries of this whistle a few times this year (the most befuddling call for me was when in the USC game Jaiden Delaire was elbowed in the face on a play when double teaming/trapping a player, and not only did they not give a flagrant, they reversed the call after replay and called a foul on Delaire for crowding the "cylinder" of the player that elbowed him -- I had to refrain from posting anything after the USC game because I was too furious about the reffing in general)
- Wonder what happened to Delaire that he did not play at all, Keefe also hardly played but that seemed like a coaches decision
- Kisunas got the bulk of the minutes, and did fairly well (still misses some point blank layups), but showed some good hustle and emotion that fired up the team
- I like how Isaac White was used yesterday. While he is clearly not a defender like a Bryce Wills or Daejon Davis, the kid has stones, and he will take shots when they are available. Quite a few times, he has hit big 3's for us which can give or halt momentum swings. What excites me most about next year's recruits is having more 3 point shooters coming into the pipeline.
