More important from my perspective, you weren't out a single-family home down payment (ok, maybe not in SF in 2020...) for each year of attendance if you paid the sticker price. I'm pretty sure most kids today would gladly waive their AP credits in exchange for opportunity to pay the ~$2400 annual tuition that the class of 1971 had to pay to wrap up their degree, the equivalent of ~$16k in 2020 dollars...
