The fact we borrow in a currency that we control the supply of makes most standard intuition about debt very, very wrong. A misplaced focus on debt is partly why the recovery from the great recession was so slow. It just doesn't matter than much when you borrow in your own currency, and aren't doing totally dumb things with it.
