The article is trying to get at the true unemployment rate.  It didn't include undocumented immigrants who lost their work, "discouraged" workers which recently have been about 1.4 million and a few other categories.

Average weekly RIF is 225k.  Two weeks ago, 3.307 million.  Last week, 6.648 million.  So the two week total is 9.955 million.  Reports are released at 8:30 am Eastern for the morbidly curious.

6,991 American coronavirus deaths (worldometer) as of 5:24 EST on 4/3.  9.955 million unemployed in the last two weeks.  1,423 lost jobs per death.  Be curious to watch that ratio over time.
