If there's even just slim evidence of remdesivir's effectiveness, the feds should consider funding scaled-up production of it now, even though it's a 
gamble--and an expensive one at that. Would save 1-2 months time at least. At worst we'd have a supply to use against other viruses that it works on.

Meanwhile, instead of taking action to make the drug more available, the Trump admin granted it orphan status which means that the company making it would have a monopoly on it for 7 years.  The company, facing horrible PR, withdrew the application after the fact: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/25/healt...-drug.html
