On Hector, it depends on what exactly his role allegedly was and what he did in the aftermath.  In the piece (before it was taken down) a statement from the family lawyer (so take it with a grain of salt) was that Ayden talked to police as a witness.

It also depends on what he disclosed on his admission app.

I don't know the answer to either of the questions, so I have no idea if Stanford could have even entertained the notion of acting differently.

right, but as i recall, also in the piece was a report that what the family likely wanted to suppress in the police report was a statement from a girl at school that students were showing each other the video of the sex scene that they had received on their phones, saying it was taken by ayden hector.

that could make hector's press release accurate on a technicality as filming and distributing the video (without the girl's consent) could be said to be not exactly sexual misconduct. but if true, it's still illegal and reprehensible.

I believe Hector's statement is likely accurate.

I believe that his lawyers wanted to suppress the (false) report about him being the one filming.

I believe that the young man did cooperate with authorities in the investigation.

I believe that no charges have been filed against anyone, obviously including Hector.

The problem is that all the above can be true, and Stanford can be well within "the community consensus" in rescinding admission offer because being in a car where a gang bang is going on reflects a pretty significant character lapse.  And I'm the first one to say we all make mistakes - hell, I made plenty when I was in college and beyond.  But really, when did it become "okay" to gang bang?  Seriously.  I was in a frat that was known for good athletes and good parties . . . but gang bangs?  Never (nor did I hear of such going on elsewhere).  

And in HS?  C'mon now.

But this is where someone more cool and wise than I will hit me with the okboomer boomer hashtag.
