He's comparing the action of a potential medicine to a disinfectant, probably naively. He's not suggesting anyone inject disinfectant directly into their lungs.

What medicine is going to go in and coat the surface of the lung and clean them like a disinfectant? If that is your best guess, I'm afraid I'm not any more comforted than I was by everyone else's interpretation.
