I think most would agree with the second argument, originally from Bill Gates, for building up facilities to manufacture multiple vaccine candidates knowing that some will fail and it will "waste" money, because the wasted money is relatively small and speed is so important.

I'm more curious about the arguments around challenge trials, which I've seen mixed ideas on previously. It seems pretty persuasive to me, but I'm not involved with medical ethics at all.
