Of the four misses, three of them hit the receiver in between the numbers and were dropped. The fourth was a bomb in which Trent overthrew the receiver by about two feet. He was the most accurate HS quarterback I ever saw.
I do remember that a Paly LB and DE knocked Trent out of the game, temporarily. And I thought to myself, "what happens when the LB and DE are forty and seventy pounds heavier and much faster and stronger?"
Stanford is lucky the Edwards family didn't sue the university for child endangerment. The OL was a sieve and the O sucked under Buddy(?) back then (Ty fled to "greener" South Bend knowing the Farm's OL cupboard was bare). Any QB would be scarred for life if every time you dropped back you got pulverized, which was basically the case with Trent Edwards. Confidence is vital in any sport at any level (but particularly the higher up the chain you go). It's impossible to have confidence when you're worried about getting trucked all the time.
Trent threw a beautiful ball and would have put up monster numbers with a good OL. What he experienced at Stanford on the gridiorn was a shame.
