I'm familiar with Stanford's struggles with the county over the GUP, but did they really give-up give up? It was my impression that undergraduate expansion was an eternal goal that might fade as appropriate but never disappear. I am not in favor of eternal growth (that's unsustainable), but making the Stanford experience accessible to more students surely isn't a bad thing. Alas, infrastructure demands.
