LOL at the stupidity of thermometer scanners to stop virus spread. I wonder if Jared has a stake in a company selling them.

It comes as no surprise to many people that the initial “leak” would be substantiated and it was clearly, not be any stretch, anything like “clickbait.”

But I would clarify that the CDC pushed back on that specific reliance upon thermal screening at airports:
““Thermal scanning as proposed is a poorly designed control and detection strategy as we have learned very clearly,”  Dr. Martin  Cetron, the CDC’s director of global mitigation and quarantine, wrote in an email to Department of Homeland Security officials on Thursday. “We should be concentrating our CDC resources where there is impact and a probability of mission success.” ”

I do not think thermal screening should be relied upon to open things up, and, if improperly done, I could see it making things worse (giving people a false sense of safety, creating longer, slower lines in enclosed spaces, consuming airport staff resources that could be better used elsewhere), but I don’t think that means thermal screening has no place in a larger strategy.

Although it should definitely not be a primary strategy due to its flaws, I’m in favor of using thermal screening as a complementary tool. Even if it only reduces the number of infectious people going into work or public spaces, and even if it misses pre- and asymptomatic people, if done properly, I think it can be assistive. Even though we know there are many pre and asymptomatic people, I suspect there are still a significant number of people with fevers trying to go to work or trying to have fun in crowds.
