Many of the working class are suffering economically, but the ones who are working are the ones most exposed health wise. Those “forced” to work are not only spreading the virus to other workers and the customers and they are more likely to spread the virus to family members because of the size of homes and households.
The US has a relatively fragile social safety which puts more pressure on the working class to work in unsafe conditions. The country needs additional/frequent testing of these front-line workers, with rapid/effective contact tracing and isolation. Effective enforcement of the hygiene rules is essential.
As a hotspot, Hayward opened drive-through testing last month. Finally, Santa Clara County is rolling out additional testing in East San Jose and Mountain View to identify more infections.
