The KGO report is frustrating because it is totally devoid of any data. I have not been able to find any current suicide data for the county. Without detailed data, it's not possible to tell what's going on. How do the numbers compare to other peak periods? Is the experience at John Muir representative of the county or mainly their clientele (mostly white affluent).
It does seem that the suicide rate in Contra Costa is more responsive to current events than state and national averages: https://www.livestories.com/statistics/c...-mortality. A lot of the greater variability is probably from the data being for a smaller population. However, the peaks to seem to coincide with periods of economic or political stress. We certainly have a lot of both right now.
