At one point in time there was a genre of story out in various couples making what most people would describe as a comfortable income talking about how they had trouble making ends meet.  See, for example these two (and there are many in the genre):

These stories inevitably provoke a backlash, but of course how secure one feels with a given income is entirely subjective.  I don't think it's appropriate to question someone else's perception of their economic situation regardless of how much they make.
