I went to a birthday brunch the last weekend in February in SF and COVID-19 was all anyone was talking about - no one hugged or touched and we all sat a few feet apart at an outdoor restaurant.

In San Francisco, the word was getting around by the middle of February. I'm not the type to normally pay attention to such stuff. However, the signal was strong enough this time that by February 20 I had discussed the matter with the boss and gotten approval to greatly expand telework. I went into the office twice in the following two weeks, after which  everyone went on telework till further notice.
