As for the relative utility of science, when you offer up a better alternative, I'll be eager to hear it.

Well, if we're talking about the governance of society, I'd offer up the Constitution and the First Amendment as at least as good an alternative to "science" imposed by those in power against the will of the people.  and, in light of the past week or so, I'm thinking you might even be willing to agree with me on that.
