It would be interesting to see team-specific data to compare if those numbers Mick posted are standard from team to team, or if there really is a big difference from franchise to franchise. I’m confident the Giants were among the worst in MLB at developing draft picks over that time.
My assumption is the Farhan Zaidi regime will be at least one standard deviation better at player development than whoever was running the Giants before him.
Here’s a random kick in the nuts for Giants fans about the MLB draft. In 1992, the Giants had the 6th pick and selected OF Calvin Murray from Texas who went on to play in 240 games with 627 PA, hit .240 with 8 HR, 26 2B, 52 RBI and 18 SB, and a 2.1 WAR.
Derek Jeter was drafted #5 by the Yankees.
They seemed to be pretty good at development starting around 07: Lincecum, Cain, Bum, Posey, Belt, Panik ( flamed out fast admittedly) Crawford, Pablo, Wilson. Romo. Pretty big pieces in their run.
As for the nut kick - all franchises can say that.
