Those of you adopting the surrender monkey position of we couldn’t have done anything more and what we asked was too much, are seeing your credibility evaporate in front of my eyes. You are otherwise very smart, so it confounds me how such a blind spot can exist when it comes to Covid-19 containment in the United States.
Maybe New Zealand isn’t the best example. Island nation. Ability to close borders. Whatever. OK, how about Thailand? Similar climate as Florida. Yet look:

Florida reported more cases yesterday (third consecutive day of record new cases reported) than Thailand has recorded total. Everyone in Thailand wears a mask and practices distancing.
Thailand and New Zealand not good enough, how about Japan?

Or maybe let’s go to Germany? It is a fellow G7 country that had a big outbreak:

Wow, look at that. Need I go on? How about closer to home, like Canada?
https://www.worldometers.info/coronaviru...ry/canada/
Hmm, even Canada - still not bent down the curve enough - did a far better job than the U.S. and it’s active cases are trending down. Not in the USA. Only Brazil is worse. And the fact of the matter is, the only reason the U.S. isn’t way worse than it is can be attributed to the fact the Tri-State area got hit hard and did a great job knocking the virus down. But even we are slipping.
Remember a week ago I reported about being horrified by what I saw when out last Saturday? Well, the following Saturday, after only double digit daily increases for a week, 158 new cases were reported.
It all starts at the top. The United States should NEVER, EVER be so weak as to be the least competent and most impacted by something Thailand can easily handle. If you think what we are experiencing is unavoidable, you need to massively ratchet up your expectations for everyone in this country and hold them accountable for better performance. Because the simple reality is we can and have no reason not to be way, way better than we are right now.
