It helps that Sweden has universal healthcare and that citizen healthcare isn't tied to their employment -- more people can get sick without the looming threat of medical bankruptcy.  I wonder how much of Sweden's ICU bed/staffing capacity was used up before they started coming to their senses from the policy side.

The thing with ICU bed capacity is that it's a lagging indicator...by about 14 days.  So we're watching politicians play catch up from 14 days back against an exponential curve of degree greater than 1, and it's not a pretty picture.
