Well, it might be true that many people who caused the increasing cases and demanded reopening at a reckless rate are now demanding that schools open “for the childrens’ sake”, and I can think of several specific instances of this, but the rub is that from what I’ve seen, parents with school aged children have been the ones following the guidelines. I’ve seen A LOT of people congregating — sometimes hundreds of people hanging our at bars or bar/restaurants, and groups of people jumping the fence to play basketball even during the initial, strict SIP, and it’s not the parents with young children doing this. People with young kids have been pleading with their neighbors on NextDoor to wear masks and not to congregate in large groups, saying how they want their kids to be able to go to school (which now, for the most part, they will not be able to do).
Or, as Paul Krugman succinctly put it in his recent column:
“ And the reason we’re in this position is that states, cheered on by the Trump administration, rushed to allow large parties and reopen bars. In a real sense America drank away its children’s future.”
