I know one person who started a dental tools company at the age of 19 and did very well, USC grad. All three of my stepsister's children attended USC. I know their mother had debilitating dyscalculia (all the women on that side of the family do), presumably her kids didn't inherit it. And one of the kids on my son's volleyball team went to USC. The only thing the parents had in common was that they were stinkin' rich.
My HS (if I said "exclusive, filthy rich LA private school" you can probably guess which one) fed ~90% of every graduating class into 3 "buckets" of schools:
- Stanford/Ivies/MIT/CalTech
- Northwestern/Duke/UChicago/WashU St. Louis
- USC/NYU/Michigan
Can confirm the third bucket fit the bill of "parents were stinkin' rich" for almost every kid, the general exception being engineering-focused kids who did well in STEM classes but didn't do much extracurricular-wise beyond maybe playing a sport or an instrument (thus competing for limited School of Engineering spots with thousands of other just-as-qualified kids who did exactly the same thing or more).
